Mars Mission

The proposed “Mars Mission” (unmanned orbiter) is under final stage of consideration by the Government for its approval. 
ISRO proposes to undertake a “Mars Orbiter Mission” during October-November 2013. The objective of the Mission is to demonstrate India’s technological capability to reach Martian orbit and would pave the way for future scientific exploratory missions. The Mars Orbiter is planned for launch using India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-XL) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. 
The cost of the proposed “Mars Orbiter Mission” is Rs. 450 crores and the mission is planned to be completed by 2015-16.
The above information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry Personnel, PG & Pensions and in the Prime Minister’s Office (Shri V. Narayanasamy) in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
